A common question from the Unix crowd on OS X is "Why don't I format my disk UFS?" and for a reason often get "Just don't!" as an answer. However, there was a highly informative tip on getting a UFS volume on demand when you really require it on Slashdot: Just use DiskCopy to create a UFS volume when you need it, and get rid off it when you no longer do.
