Change alert volume setting in the menubar System
I was trying to adjust my alert volume today when I noticed that when I held down the OPTION key on my keyboard and adjusted the volume controler in the menubar, it was ajusting the alert volume not the main volume, or at least I think it was doing this. Maybe others can verify this.

[Editor's note: Verified here; option-click changes only the alert volume, not the main system volume.]

I posted that same hint in reply to another hint several weeks ago.
I'm glad to see someone else noticed it too.

Opens Sounds prefs for me

Weird. Option-volume up (or down) opens up my Sounds Preferences. (I'm running 10.1.5)

Option click on the sound buttons (F3-F5) will open the sound prefs.

Option click on the sound menu item will change the alert volume instead of the system volume.

(Using 10.1.5) HTH.

if you hold down the APPLE key while you click on the MONITORS, SOUND, MODEM, BATTERY, TIME items, you will notice that you can move them around and position them however you wish.
