QuickTime scales printed images to page size Apps
You can print images from lots of apps, but many will want to print images based on how large they think they should be and are usually not optimal. Browsers and Preview are among those applications. However opening an image in Quicktime and printing from it will scale images to fill the printed page.

[Editor's note: I have not verified this myself, as my printer is currently awaiting a new ink cartridge!]

I can verify that this is indeed true.

I discovered this accidentally while printing from the Preview Application on an Epson printer. There is a catch with this though. If your picture has a high enough resolution that it fits completely within the printed page, it will be printed at resolution.

example: a 2700 dpi JPEG 24x36mm in size prints at that size (24x36mm)

re-set the resolution of that same file to say 96 or 72dpi and it is scaled 'down' to the appropriate resolution such that it scales proportionally to fill the page.
