New USB webcam driver available System
A German guy has done it ... the first USB webcam driver is now available, but only for the Philips ToUCam Pro. I hope that other cameras will follow soon as this is written as open source. Read about the 'wc' driver and its current status on the wc home page.

[Editor's note: I used Oculus for OS X over the holidays to drive our FireWire video camera as a web cam, and it worked perfectly. It captured an image every second to the hard drive, and uploaded an image every 90 seconds to our website for a couple of hours. The Oculus site lists some USB cameras as supported, but I have no idea if they work in OS X or not.]

Excellent! There's HOPE!

Until I dug into OSX fulltime, I was on the webcam to family in the US often. Now, even though it's just a reboot away, it seems a pain keep going back to 9.2...if this fellow ever wants to come up to Amsterdam, I'll be happy to buy him a few rounds! Hope remains that I can still see my family in California one day again... (snif)

Now hopefully he'll find a way to support the iRez hardware, which is what I have (we all know that iRez does such a great job themselves. Barf)...

Good News about the driver, Bad News about the cam
Authored by: jgross on Jan 11, '02 08:39:08PM

I am so glad this driver exists. I wanted the ToUCam Pro as a web cam.

Downloaded the driver, revved up the best price engine . . . .

And found out the ToUCam Pro is Discontinued from Philips.

Happy ending for me though, I found one at CDW. They had five on 1/8/02. Today, 1/11, they are all gone.

Version 0.3 released!
Authored by: Bonker on Jan 17, '02 11:22:23PM

Version 0.3 is released! The main changes are additional support for Philips ToUCam Fun, Philips Vesta and Philips Vesta Pro (the original ToUCam Pro is - of course - also supported ), several bug fixes, some performance improvements and a completely restructured internal model to simplify the extension to other camera models.

cewl !!!
