Disable bouncing dock alert icons Apps
Unsanity has released a 'haxie' (their term for an OS X hack) to take care of the #1 help request here at -- disabling bouncing dock alert icons!

If you're tired of the icon bouncing onto your screen when it can't connect, or the Explorer icon bouncing to let you know a page has changed, you need Dock Detox. It quickly and easily disables the bouncing dock icons (except for Classic applications), and best of all, it's free!

If you decide you don't want it any more, simply log out and log in again and it's gone (I imagine you could also kill its process ID, but I haven't tried this).

yes, you can quit dock detox via the process viewer and the icons will start bouncing again. btw, if you've got bouncing icons when you first launch dock detox they'll keep bouncing until you either logout and login again or use the process viewer to quit the dock whereupon once it relaunches it will pay attention to dock detox.

Dock Detox [quitting dock & ideas]

or, presumably you could re-launch the dock without logging out using the applescript: "tell application "dock" to quit"--I have such a script in my script menu for those problem dock occasions. ;-)

a "haxie" that would be really nice would modify the bouncing behaviour to be less intrusive somehow-- and/or to have an exclusions list for apps that would still bounce. ideas of how it could be less intrusive: icon turns a certain color, icon rotates, icon wiggles instead of bounces, etc. don't know if this is possible to modify but it would be very nice...

Check out to see your idea in action already,
you can set it to flash its dock icon when receiving an IM,
bounce wildly, or not at all...
