I don't know, but it turns out the delay goes away if I close my PPP connection before quitting Entourage. Then it only takes a normal two seconds to fully quit.

It was taking Entourage 75 seconds to quit on my TiBook 500 with a gig of RAM. The windows would close, but the Entourage menu bar would still be there and the little triangle would be in the Dock indicating it was running. I could switch to other apps, but the point was, what was taking so long?

I'll bet it has to do with license checking -- seeing if anyone else on the network is using a copy of Office with the same license number. I just found that Word X has the same delay (and workaround). So it's not because Entourage is an Internet application, as one might guess. It's because Entourage is a *Microsoft* application.
Are you using IMAP?
If you are using an IMAP server, and you have Entourage set to remove deleted messages on exit, it's possible that entourage is using this time to do all the server maintenance it needs to.

I'm experiencing the same troubles wit Enotourage X french version. I have no IMAP accounts, and I have disabled every "shutdown" planned activities in Entourage.

I too have noticed this lately. I have a DP G4/450 running 10.1.1. At first I thought Entourage was not going to close at all, so the first few times this happened, I forced the app to quit. Then I waited one day and noticed it eventually quit. I also noticed that Word does this too. I am not on a network (other than my internet connection), and I have no IMAP accounts setup in Entourage. I'll try it and see if closing my PPP connection has any affect on Entourage closing more quickly. However, that would be a real pain to have to do that in order to just get Entourage to close correctly. I would also be interested to know if this is a glitch or if Microsoft has said or will say anything about this.

I get slow quitting of Entourage and Word v. X as well. I can't shut down my PPP because, I suppose, I'm on DSL. Some posts on another site suggest it has to do with Office checking the network to see if other Ofice apps are working. Thank you again, Microsoft, for adding such a wonderful feature. I find it's easier to force quit these office apps than to sit around and wait for them to disappear. Someone please give us a hack to get rid of this problem.
Can't Quit Any Application
Sorry, but wish I had your problem. All Office X applications, i.e., Entourage, Word, Excel, etc. refuse to quit. Command-Q closes all windows. Sometimes app's menu bar remains, sometimes not, but bottom line is I get a beach ball.

Found an odd old folder, Adobe Type 1 fonts circa 1995 or so, in my Classic System folder. Removed them, logged in and out, and now I *can* quit although I seem to now belong to the present group, i.e., takes 1-2 minutes to quit *all* Office X applications, with Entourage X being the slowest. Anyone else having long wait time on quitting other apps, especially Word X?
Force Quitting
Yes, I'm having to force quit Entourage too - does anyone know if this will be doing anything any damage? If so, is there a way to clean up or check things after a force quit?
Network checking
While Office X apps are network-aware, I believe they search the LAN at each app's launch, not quit. (I'm just guessing.)
