Remove unwanted channels from Sherlock Apps
There are three reasons you may wish to remove channels from Sherlock:
  1. Sherlock loads faster with fewer channels and everybody loves more speed
  2. Some channels are hidden ads anyway (No, I don't shop at and never will)
  3. I just hate that woman staring at me on the people channel. She has a crazy look.
The folder that holds the Sherlock channels and plug-ins is located in ~/Library/Internet Search Sites (~ = /Users/username). Now, the catch here is that if you simply go trashing the folders inside, Sherlock will happily recreate them the next time it is launched.

Trash them anyway, but then put a Textedit file with the same name in its place (Ex.: put a file named "People" where the folder "Pepople" is supposed to be). Sherlock won't be able to recreate the channel and will not display it in the future. Any kind of file will do. Just make sure your file does not have any kind of extension (.rtf) at the end.

Disabling a plug-in works the same way. Just put a file named "Altavista.src" in the Internet folder, for example.

Something you don't want to do

Just a warning to those who are going to do this;

You can delete all of the folders, except 'Files'. If you plan on searching the files on your hard drive, you just might want to keep that channel.

I didn't make this mistake, but I can see where someone could do that.

touch filename

instead of making a text file or whatever, goto your terminal and type in

touch filename

for example such as:

touch "My Channel"

will give you

-rw-r--r-- 1 user staff 0 Nov 25 20:17 My Channel

0K file instead of 1K TextEdit file or whatever. just another anal geeky thing i guess... make sure you go into that Search Site directory first tho. and use backslash instead of quotes if you want spaces. this PHP script doesn't like backslashes to be inputted. :/
