Bypass the 30 sec delay with option-startup System
OK, so for some systems, it's possible to choose the startup partition holding the OPTION key at startup. Great! But, what is really annoying is the 30 second delay the Mac asks for each time I do a startup with OPTION key.

The other day, I started doing that, but at the same time I had my mouse button down, because I wanted to eject a CD I forgot to eject before shutting down. The CD ejected, and ... the usual partition dialog appeared without any delay!

So I verified again and again ... and it works! Pressing the mouse button while you press the OPTION key at startup brings the partition boot dialog instantaneously, with no delays!

Anyone else tried this? My machine is a 2000 iMac DVSE 500 slot-loading with OSX10.1 OS9.2.1 and 384mb of RAM...

It doesn't work on my G4 AGP 400MHz. I use the latest firmware (4.2.8).

You have to hold the mouse button until all drives are shown on screen.
I forgot to wait until my second drive powered up...

Oh...mamma mia..!
It works for me too!
I own an iBook.-CD RW (Dual USB )
I have the two Systems on two different partition.
It's a good shortcut at the startup.

What about...

... the delay before it lets you click on any of the options already displayed in this dialog? I mean you get the spinning watch cursor for a while before you can select anything. That's what annoys me....

It's tricky...

Works on my G4 400 AGP with the latest firmware, but it's tricky. It seems that you have to hold the mouse button down very early in the boot process for it to eliminate the delay. It took me a few tries before I got it.
