Use SSH for secure AppleShare sessions Network
The incomparable Brad Suinn from Apple has been kind enough to release juicy tidbits about the AppleShare X Client in a unauthorized readme. Amongst other things the end of the file shows how to do an AFP/IP connection using SSH so everything is nice and secure and encrypted. Check out:

http://homepage.mac.com/suinn/AShareXDevNotes.html (search on "SSH" to find the relevant section)

The above URL no longer exists. Thankfully, I was able to find a cached version of the above mentioned site. And if you want to see the regular homepage you can find versions of it here.

Just for the records: This cached version is not the latest! If you just
want to read the hint on using ssh to tunnel AFP connection, this doesn't
matter. But in case, you're involved in studying AFP technology, you
should have better "cached" your own version of the most recent version
before all the stuff will be merged into the docs at http://developer.apple.com

Regards,

Thomas
