ResExcellence has a VERY cool guide to enabling multiple icon sizes in a single Finder window or on the Desktop - you can set the size on a PER ICON basis! Don't you just love Quartz?

cool
I got it to work, rather cool. However a warning came up on start-up. Something along the lines of this dock module may have problems, if so don't bother to contact apple. Makes me a little nervous, but hey it makes life fun!!!!
Warning
If you use Mouseworks to enable the extra buttons on your Kensington mouse this hack will screw up the mouse driver.
Works in Jaguar!!!
I just wanted you to know that this works in Jaguar 10.2.2. http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20010523133741882 It was broke in 10.1. I didn't exactly follow the instructions as presented at resexcellence. Here is what I did:
Now under "File" you will have an "Icon Size" menu item that works. BUG/DOWNSIDE: Show information is no longer COMMAND-i, it is COMMAND-OPTION-i. POSIBLE UPSIDE TO BUG: Instead of having to open multiple information windows, the window stays open and you simply click on the next item you want info on. The way it was prior to Jaguar The original hack did not include this premodified stuff. Does any one remember what the hack was? Perhaps if applied to the new file the above bug would not happen? Didn't anyone found a work around to the File menu and its assigned shortcuts gettings a bit messed up?
Works in Jaguar!!! - REVISED
Found a nicer way to do it that doesn't screw up your Get/Inspector box.
Multiple icon sizes in one view area
Awesome! Thanks for testing this out in Jaguar, I had no idea this old hack from pre-10.1 might work again.
Multiple icon sizes in one view area
A downloadable resource file for a Jaguar-compatible version now appears on the ResExcellence site. Thanks!
