Typing in Finder windows Desktop
This is a temporary work-around for the Finder not properly scrolling to the file when in List view in Finder windows.

If the file you are trying to select (and show) is below the visible range of the Finder window, simply type the first few letters of the filename (like OS 9), then hit RETURN or ENTER twice.

The Finder will scroll and display the file after temporarily putting the name in edit mode.

You can also hit the up or down arrow and it will scroll to the file you've selected.

I noticed this the other day and reported it as a bug on apple's feedback site. I hope it gets addressed.
