Jump directly to files in the Finder Desktop
I discovered that you can jump to file names - sort of - in the Finder. You just have to hold down the shift key to do it. Unfortunately, as far as I can tell, it doesn't recognize multiple keystrokes - so you can only jump to the first file starting with a specific letter.

Jumping to Filenames in X finder

I believe this is fixed in the 10.0.1 update (at least in 4L5). This is a good sign: I saw this bug on this site noted one day, then got a hold of the updater the next, and behold, the bug was fixed. I think this bodes well for the OS, as the response of the Mac OS X team was very quick. This gives me hope that this OS will get the bugs out quickly.
