This is great news (for me, at least) as the dock and DragThing together will make a great team to make OS X even more usable!

DragThing was my favorite launcher utility for OS 9. The author's been working on a new version to support OS X, and posted a screenshot back in December. A week or so ago, he posted some more shots (taken in OS 9) of the latest builds. Based on the screenshots, he's added some very nice features. He's also commented that he hopes to release the new version very close to March 24th's release of OS X 1.0.

Replacement for Dock as app switcher
Personally, I find the Dock just marvelous as a launcher, as I don't really have that many apps/files that I want quick access to.
DragThing 4 for X
It's out and it works just as well as in 9.X. In combination with the Dock, you've got a great combination. I've been using DT for years and James is one of the most responsive shareware authors in my experience. I've encountered one interface glitch -- in the IE 5.1 Preview, you can see the "tool tips" for the Drag Thing dock through the title bar and tool bar. I've alerted the author and he's looking into it. |
